Soteriology is the branch of theology that studies salvation—how God saves humanity through Jesus Christ. The term comes from the Greek soterion ("salvation") and logos ("study" or "word").

Key Areas:

- The Need for Salvation: Humanity is fallen in sin and separated from God (Romans 3:23; 6:23). Sin brings guilt, corruption, and death, making salvation necessary.


- The Source of Salvation: Salvation is initiated by God's grace, not human merit (Ephesians 2:8–9). It is grounded in God's love and His eternal purpose.


- The Work of Christ: Christ's life, death, and resurrection accomplish salvation. His death is understood as atonement—reconciling sinners to God. Major atonement theories include:

  - Penal Substitution: Christ bore the penalty for sin in the sinner's place.

  - Christus Victor: Christ defeated sin, death, and Satan.

  - Moral Influence: Christ's love inspires repentance and transformation.

  - Recapitulation: Christ sums up and restores humanity in Himself.


- The Order of Salvation (Ordo Salutis): The logical sequence of how salvation is applied to the believer typically includes:

  - Election: God's gracious choice.

  - Regeneration: New birth by the Holy Spirit.

  From a Christian perspective (based on the Bible), there are several factors that can hinder blessings/fortune in a person's life. However, it's important to remember that God doesn't always work like an automatic machine (e.g., "do A → get B"), but He cares about the growth of our faith and character.
