Love Never Keeps Promises, Only Promises Keep Love

Love Never Keeps Promises, Only Promises Keep Love Why the Foundation of Human Love is Not Feeling, but Commitment --- Introduction Since the fall of humanity into sin, our ability to love perfectly has been tainted. Human love becomes fragile, inconsistent, and vulnerable to self-interest. In this condition, God no longer bases His relationship with humanity on easily forgotten "words of love," but on eternal covenantal promises. This principle applies not only to the relationship between humans and God but also to interpersonal relationships—including marriage. --- 1. Love Never Keeps Promises Love, in the sense of human feeling, is fluctuating. It can strengthen in times of joy and weaken in the midst of difficulty. The biblical narrative is full of examples of human infidelity: - Israel repeatedly forgot their love for God and turned to idols. - David, called "a man after God's own heart," fell into adultery and murder. - Peter, who claimed he was ready to...

Gnosticism and New Age Teaching

Refuting the Claim "Divinity Growing Within Every True Believer"

The claim that believers have "divinity growing within" is a deviation from sound biblical teaching. Believers are called to reflect God's glory (Matthew 5:16), not to become God. Our righteousness is a gift through faith, not an ontological transformation into divine beings.

The doctrine that humans "become divine" is a hallmark of Gnosticism and New Age mysticism, not biblical theology.

1. Christ as the Only Divine Being

- The Bible clearly states that only God possesses absolute divine nature (Isaiah 43:10, 44:6). Humans, even believers, are never called "divine" in the sense of possessing a divine essence.

- John 1:12-13 states that believers become “children of God” through the new birth, but this is a relational status, not an ontological change into divinity.

2. Participation in the Divine Nature (2 Peter 1:4) Does Not Imply Equality with God

- 2 Peter 1:4 speaks of participation (metechō = sharing) in the divine nature, not of becoming divine. This means that believers are formed by the Holy Spirit to reflect God's character (2 Corinthians 3:18), but not to become God.

- This verse must be read in the context of holiness (verses 5-7), not the transformation of human essence into divine.

3. Our Righteousness is the Imputed Righteousness of Christ, Not a Changed Essence

- Romans 4:5-8 and Philippians 3:9 affirm that our righteousness is the imputed righteousness of Christ, not our own intrinsic righteousness.

- If humans truly possess "divine life" essentially, then sin and weakness in the life of believers (Romans 7:14-25) become an unanswerable contradiction.

4. Divine Life in Mortal Flesh (2 Corinthians 4:10-11) is about Death to Sin, Not Becoming Divine

- 2 Corinthians 4:10-11 speaks of suffering and death with Christ, not of humans becoming divine.

- Paul emphasizes that glory belongs to God (verse 7), and human weakness actually shows God's power, not man's divine nature.

5. Dangers of Theology that Blurs the Line between Creator and Creation

- Romans 1:22-23 warns against men who “claim to be wise” and equate creation with the Creator.

"For all things are from Him, and by Him, and to Him: To Him be glory forever!" (Romans 11:36).
